Use short calls to maintain schedule integrity during an adverse weather event rather than misconnect thousands of passengers. The alternative, stranding thousands around the system during Christmas travel season and taking 4 days to dig out from the hole.
As I said, not the answer that any reserve wants to hear, but I think it's a prudent measure.

Good post. To think the company wouldn't build SC's as a result of the DEN irrops is shortsighted. FAR117 has a lot to do with reserve short calls versus the previous iteration of rest rules. The meter running means the company is losing availability every minute after the SC start time.
With all the bids that have taken place anyone that is on reserve other than new hires have had bidding options to get themselves off reserve somewhere.
