If only there were a certain person who was sitting behind a desk with myriad amounts of information at their fingertips. This person would have intimate knowledge of weather, NOTAMs, aircraft capabilities, and the FAR's. We could even FAA certify them and make them jointly responsible for the flight! This way the flight crew isn't completely alone out there and wouldn't be a gnat's rear end away from a violation every time they show up to work. I wonder what we could call such people.....
