So if by the 5th,you have ioe schedule to finish by say Jan 28th, you can bid for Feb.
If you wake up on Jan 8th with no ioe but by the 9th they filled you up to finish by the 28th, guess what? February is reserve. And not bidding reserve, they literally make up a line for you.
This is no longer true for first officer trainees. Still true for captains, but too many pilots were unable to finish in their scheduled time and required their pairings removed for more training. Now your IOE must be completed and checkride signed off before your name will be put into PBS as a bidder. Finish IOE on the 7th and you're okay, finish on the 8th, you'll be placed on reserve for the balance of that month and have a reserve line built for the next as well. Welcome to the new skywest.
