This, IMHO, has gone far beyond a comfort issue in the crew rooms. There are now enough mandatory company policies that involve internet access that they are obligated to provide it.
The MEC needs to make the initiative to get internet access into the crew rooms for the general use of the pilots to do what they want while they're between flights - that could be updating your flight time on Airlineapps.com, streaming a movie on Netflix, whatever.

The company should provide access to the intranet for the sole purpose of updating our iPads. Nothing more needed.
