The irony here is this 'pilot' in is now 'retiring', probably in part because of this self-inflicted incident. This is the same VP that swaggered over there from Northwest-Delta and was openly welcomed by the G4 guys. Their enthusiasm turned to disappointment after endless bloviations about 'legacy creep' and "family first" while sending guys TDY for a year on uncommutable schedules. Soon all communication virtually stopped. The in-house reps requests to meet were ignored while pilots were handed Merlot, mission mode abuse, loss of pay and QOL, and countless other 'gifts'. I couldn't take it anymore and gave up hoping for things to improve. It's no surprise they unionized after that.
Fuel discretion was one of these gifts (many captain authority items were taken away). Planes were to be pre-fueled by inexperienced dispatchers sending 'canned' releases without input from captains. Pilots had to
call and justify their request for more fuel which sometimes meant calling the fuel truck back and taking a delay. Dispatchers were pressured too. The pilot in-house (APAG) argued to no avail. Guys got tired of fighting eventually gave up trying, choosing to divert if necessary. This VP then went so far as to send a letter to the pilots outlining FAA min/emergency fuel procedures! Pilot worries about flying to remote places (like Fargo!!) were arrogantly dismissed. His career may have ended on this poetic note.
Hopefully others in this biz are paying attention and learning from these silly mistakes. For the sake of the G4 pilots, I hope they found a good replacement. Those guys deserve better
