Though I see your point, I feel like you are viewing this problem through the wrong lens. You see it as a veteran 121/XJT pilot. I think most 21-23 year old kids aren't informed enough on the other stuff and simply go to the pay scale. If you think most young pilots to this game understand scope or can see far enough down the road to think about retirement, I think that's a miscalculation.
I don't think I said anything about scope and retirement, although that is important. I'm simply taking about upgrade time. New hires have been looking at that for at least 15 years. Could that with the bonuses and career progression that recruiters dangle in front of prospective new hires, there is no reason why having industry leading first year pay alone will attract pilots that weren't already considering this place to begin with.
