I was incorrectly assigned a trip while on reserve. There were 2 LC pilots with 2 days of availability: I was in bucket 2 and the other pilot was in bucket 1 and they gave me the trip so they could then assign the other pilot SC (I had a later start time due to a partial payback day, so I wasn't eligible for SC as early as the other pilot which didn't work for their schedule). I called scheduling, pointed out the error, and they went back and basically undid the entire day since there was something of a domino effect from this mistake. They fixed the problem and gave the trip to the pilot who was supposed to get it in the 1st place, so all is well.
It is my belief they tried to pull a fast one so they could maximize reserve coverage (717 is grossly understaffed) since they got an extra SC in the original iteration of the schedule. I couldn't find it specifically in the contract, but I know scheduling policy is to assign trips off of LC and then assign SCs, so they basically went out of order so as to maximize coverage. Had I not been stalking the daily trip coverage I might not have noticed this error until it was beyond the point of fixing. Had that occurred (or when it happens next time), would I have had any recourse? Had I flown the trip could I have grieved the assignment and been paid premium pay after the fact?
Well, it's Monday, so call the DALPA office and ask the Scheduling or Contract Admin guys, I'm sure they've seen crew scehds pull that trick before.
