Apparently the FAA agreed to resume so long as they were present for each Type. FOs were told to expect an FO PC oral, given a 1 day class instead of the normal 5 days, then showed up to a full type oral.
Airlines have known about this deadline for years but just like Merlot, Allegiant waited until the deadline to slam together another rushed, uncoordinated charade that resulted in a nice little pink under the tree for these FOs. Way to support the troops Allegiant. Merry Christmas.
And happy holidays to the passengers that will be enjoying Christmas at an airport as a result of this self-induced crew shortage
That's what I heard, It's primarily been the MD-80 FO’s. Durden got it right. One day review; no advanced warning and full PIC type ride. And also heard one poor chap is going up for the “Review Board”. And this isn't the first time the FAA has shut down the training department. The last time this happened, it was the government shutdown that was the culprit. Never a staffing and training issue and lack thereof.
G4 management had three years to type all remaining FO’s. A perfect summation of crisis management. Apparently training isn't in their “dna” either.
