SR (head of scheduling), will try to push the new guys by making threats, but as long as you have orders or a letter from your unit for the chief pilot, they're very good about assuring that you'll be home for your duty. I've had them send me home a day earlier, so I could have crew rest, then I could fly a mission. Never had an issue. Just keep them informed.
The last thing I would want to do is intentionally try to split up the 17 days just to make it to drill. To clarify my question, if I were to give the company my drill dates for the entire upcoming year, would they build a schedule around those days (the drill weekend would always happen to fall on the 13 day off period?)
