Three hour drive is tolerable. Some would rather commute that distance. It comes down to the individual's pain level.
AA short call is still 'reasonable available'. Company likes to define the time. It isn't.
"A pilot on Short Call Duty is expected to be contactable for assignment to a sequence that commences during the current RAP and be “reasonably available by surface transportation” to the airport."
