Share holders will also notice if your shoddy maintenance causes someone to get hurt or die. Allegiant makes so much money I find it hard to believe the company execs have no desire to see major improvements for the good of the company and shareholders. I don't understand why they would want to spoil a good thing by seeing the demise of the company and $$$ right before their eyes. The big 3 legacy carriers can absorb a fatal accident, I highly doubt Allegiant can.
That little "incident" whereby the MD-80s nose wheel started to rotate prematurely would have been a loss of all souls had the crew not recognized what was happening. That's probably 5 seconds between living and dying.
