To be honest, it would take a substantial amount of money to go back to commuting again. Also, I've bumped into many pilots not at legacy carriers that make more money in other jobs, and use flying as a side gig. They choose to stay at a certain carrier based on seniority, schedule, not commuting, etc. It all depends on each persons specific situation. I've met senior regional FO's who are married to neurosurgeons. Flying for them is just to get out of the house for a few days a week!
