Wow. I've had three family emergencies while at Delta, one while in SAO, and the company bent over backwards to help me, every time, even offering solutions that I never even considered. One option they have to pay you is to use the value in a vacation week. The downside to that is when you get to that vacation, the credit time is still used for bidding, but for pay it isn't. I just picked up trips or GSd the few months before.
That's interesting I wasn't offered any other options or solutions. Not to mention I was on short call and turns out they didn't even use one person. The individual I spoke with at the union told me he is seeing this kind of treatment more frequently and assumes it is direction from higher up. Very disappointing. What a terrible situation to put someone in during a family emergency; Do I lie and call in sick so i get paid or tell the truth and lose pay. Neither outcome is going to help your stress level especially during an emergency.
