I'm not sure how long you've worked here, pre strike the company took the 4 days off away from us. We would work two days have a day off work one two off work 3 etc... It sucked. We work for a vindictive mgmt. Have for a long time. As a commuter, that sucked.
So my question to you, how do we phrase language in the contract to prevent that from happening? I'm not being a d!ck, just trying to have a discussion on how to maximize my time at home as a commuter.
You are absolutely right and having a min days off at 12-13 we must absolutely have this language. It does have some detrimental effects with 6 day work blocks and almost zero chance of having every weekend off even if you are senior, as well as constantly shifting work days.

What you saw was a five day off elimination with no other changes. Having a min 15-16 day off requirement and no work blocks longer than 4 days and a min 2 days off will eliminate many of the issues you saw and also solve the problems with the required 5 days off that I mentioned. Yes there will be some lines that are 4 on 2 off for a couple weeks but guys will bid them for the large day off blocks created by the min 15-16 days off in the month.

Of course you don't just hand over 5 days off for a little cash and nothing else. That is just stupid but to say there is no other solution than just having four days off is a bit close minded.

I will say the one premium work rule that just can't be changed in any way or be sold is the red/green. That is a serious qol enhancer. I'm not even sure though that it is industry leading which means it's not something you take a pay hit for to leave alone.
