I don't always do walkarounds and I am a captain. In my own opinion it is usually due to all the factors mentioned above and allocating the proper resources than throwing my weight around.
Every other airline that I know of has the FO does the walk around. For whatever reason that came as a surprise to me, this company alternated walk arounds based on whomever was flying. That was the culture when I started. I personally don't give a damn who does the walk around. The thing that annoys me is attitude that comes from certain individuals about the subject. You wanna follow SOP's for walk arounds? Fine. There is no need to give your FO attitude about it or drone on and on and on about it. I don't want to see copies of emails to and from fleet managers or anyone else. Just shut up and fly by the book. I don't want your opinions on the matter.
