You wanna follow SOP's for walk arounds? Fine. There is no need to give your FO attitude about it or drone on and on and on about it. I don't want to see copies of emails to and from fleet managers or anyone else. Just shut up and fly by the book. I don't want your opinions on the matter.
In all my years as a Captain I've never felt a need to lecture an FO about doing things by the book. If it's SOP for First Officer's to conduct the walk-around, then why is the Captain under any obligation to ever do it? Unless the Captain relieves you of the responsibility, you do it. The attitude you talk about, and the lengthy explanation, is likely a result of having to ask you to do your job. My guess is you earned your lecture.
