Every other airline that I know of has the FO do the walk around. For whatever reason that came as a surprise to me, this company alternated walk arounds based on whomever was flying. That was the culture when I started. I personally don't give a damn who does the walk around. The thing that annoys me is attitude that comes from certain individuals about the subject. You wanna follow SOP's for walk arounds? Fine. There is no need to give your FO attitude about it or drone on and on and on about it. In all my years as a Captain I've never felt a need to lecture an FO about doing things by the book. If it's SOP for First Officer's to conduct the walk-around, then why is the Captain under any obligation to ever do it? Unless the Captain relieves you of the responsibility, you do it. The attitude you talk about, and the lengthy explanation, is likely a result of having to ask you to do your job. My guess is you earned your lecture.
