Playing devil's advocate, what does it matter if you're typed and current? It's not like you get to go through an abbreviated course if you are. And there are no gurantees that you will get that equipment as your initial assignment. The majority of people mainline hires has never flown that type of equipment before and historically it's never been a problem, just as most new RJ folks come (at least the last 10 years) single engine prop backgrounds.

You can say if you're typed and current, and get hired to another airline flying the same equipment, it'll be harder for you to shake your former procedural habits which is a problem.

You hire the person, not the type.

I can see how it can be different in the corporate world where some insurance requires time in type.
