We are a large enough pilot group with a big enough pool of talent to NEVER have a status rep in an MEC position. He's in that position as "interim" lol not because they couldn't get anyone else, but because it fit his/their goals. I've said it before, blame the reps; they're the ones with the power and they put him there. They call ALL of the shots from the MEC to the NC.
