There is nothing mysterious, elitist, or evil about the "tier" system. It is just a way to sort through thousands of applications in a methodical fashion. The bottom line is that Delta and every other airline that is hiring has a method to determine who to call first - that is all the tier system is.
Get your App in, get an in house recommendation, stay current, and try to get as many qualifications as you can - that is all you can do.
