I believe a certain large home supply store's corporate department was/is doing this with their "FOs". When I asked those pilots what their basis for logging any time in a single pilot part 91 aircraft their reason was the "insurance required two pilots." That seemed pretty sketchy to me, and it sounds like it's complete hooey from what you're saying.
