If commuting into a trip on FedEx and something goes wrong and you miss your sign in, you are protected. There are some caveats, such as you are not protected if commuting into reserve and you miss your sign in. If you call in Fatigued and you had commuted in right before your trip, you will more than likely end up on the carpet. Just my opinion.
