Yes, guys really do go until they medical out or die. There are very few actual voluntary resignations here (almost none). There are many reasons, but most of them revolve around simple greed. Many don't like golf, or can't stand their spouses. Others just don't know what they'd do with their time at home, but most just really like money...that's it.
Add to that, the average age here is only 50. So in 20 years, it's conceivable that the average age would be 70, with almost no upgrades having taken place (assuming no growth). As you can see, this isn't a career destination for any new hire and probably won't be ever.
