I also find it precious that some think that they can walk in off the street and be sent to pilot training without serving a day in a nonflying Guard/Reserve job. Sure, there are some units that fill their pilot training allocation that way but most Guard/Reserve pilot training slots are filled by people who are already in the unit in a nonflying capacity. It's called networking.
I also know of two people that were in a guard unit that were sent to pilot training and washed out. No aviation background, just were in the guard and networked there way into something they were not qualified to do. Those slots were wasted on these two networking individuals and it robbed two civilian pilots of the chance of filling those slots.
