Reduce the fighting will to "crap" if you want. I've been there too and it certainly is scary. However, all too often, the workers are blamed instead of a greedy management. In today's climate, an almagamated contract is silly and shameful.

My choice is to die fighting on my feet than to die a slow cowardly death on my knees by accepting an almagamated contract......which would be exactly that.
