All this talk about check haulers reminds me of a rather sad story from long ago. I had a friend who flew Aztecs for Sundorph Aviation (out of Cleveland, I think). He "borrowed" a company plane one day and was joyriding low over the Smokies with a buddy and a couple of girls when he didn't quite clear a ridge. All the people aboard died, but he had brought his dog along too and the dog survived and was returned to his family. This all happened in the early 70's when I was just beginning to fly. It was quite a shock because I thought he was the world's greatest pilot. After all, he had an ATR (yeah, I know it's called ATP now. I've had one myself for 35 years).
