VBulletin "tags" come in pairs, and Xray678 edited his post to remove [ noparse][/ quote] tag, screwing up the pair. Anyone who quoted him/her or anyone who quoted a poster who quoted him/her, ad nauseum, repeats the error, and therefore the misattributed quotes.
A quote consists of
Delete the parts in brackets, and things get fouled up.
This is what I thought was happening, but without seeing the original I didn't want to say for certain.
