What he said was low labor cost is a part of the ULCC model. There are only 2 ULCC carriers in the U.S., Spirit and Frontier and it speaks for itself. Ditto for Europe's largest ULCC carrier EasyJet.
F9s payrates/contract was in place long before they transitioned to "ULCC". I'm also willing to bet the average Spirit pilot probably makes more and blocks less than the average VA guy. So contrary to what you're staying, it appears our ULCC group is compensated more than whatever hybrid title VA gives themselves.
What "Teir" is Alaska in? They have a recent contract that is not all that impressive. They ratified it recently during the peak of airline profits.
