SWA pioneered the concept of getting a person more cheaply than a legacy from suburban airport to suburban airport. They did so without interline agreements as well, but they have consistently invested in maintenance, reliability, and frequency so as not to have to cancel so many individual flights to places where people really have few options. If your stuck in Sanford after your Disney vacation, you have very little option after ALG cancels on you, even if you are now willing to pay.

Hey Mgmt is making bank though, and waiting for the FAA to take action is like waiting for the FBI/justice department to finally indict Hillary for her crimes. Our government is broken so it really is up to capitalistic market forces to demand the right thing. So even if it gives the industry a recurring black eye, hopefully they will lose customers and cease to operate before their corporate cheapness costs any lives.
It was actually PSA that pioneered the idea based on "intrastate" flying that you could only really do in large states like CA and TX. SWA admits it took PSAs play book and turned it into a monster airline.

It's a new breed of travelers who will travel on flying junk in a race to the bottom of the fare rates to travel.

Allegiant can't and won't ever be any different because that's their business model. They just can't say it.
