If I were you guys, I wouldn't worry about being completely out of a job. That being said, a merger looks like the only way out.

By last year's potential deal do you mean the TA? If so then it fell apart because it was crap. No pay raises, higher health benefit contributions...overall it was a concessionary deal although the union will deny that until the day they die.
