Of course there is a difference. If you start over (hint, hint) longevity means squat. Airlines don't work like the military. Now, if you take a leave of absence, without quitting, then you still maintain seniority and your pay reflects that. I know of 1 regional that gives you 60 days? to return, after resigning, with previous seniority.
