Heck I remember JB was impossible to get on. You needed not only 1000 TPIC but they wanted 1000 TPIC in jets that weighed greater than 25,000 lbs! Now it's a "stepping stone" for a lot of pilots. Now we have Airbus Captains at Spirit at 25 years old and unhappy and treating that like a regional.
Until these companies match the legacies in pay/ work rules and qol, they'll continue to be stepping stones.
Depending upon age it make sense to jump ship to a legacy in A LOT of cases when you break out a spreadsheet and compare the numbers.
