It will be interesting to see if they go to a more traditional selection process once the pilot shortage really hits. Right now they are missing out on a lot of very qualified candidates who are going to UAL and DAL because of their finicky hiring and long delays.
I am glad that even though they are missing a lot of qualified candidates somehow the average flight hours in my class were 7,000 and about 19 years experience in flying airplanes. As far as long delays, some of my classmates had 3 weeks between interview and class date, the longest wait was 6 weeks. Although it can be fun to swim in Delta's hiring pool for 12 months some of the qualified candidates prefer these long delays at SWA and their interview and hiring process without the aeronautical knowledge and psychological cross examination that Delta includes for free. Sorry I am a little biased.
