I'd say she was probably also in a better position than most of us average Joe (or Joann) line pilots to assess just how hard management will fight before agreeing to a new contract. The move certainly means more to me than just creating a need to hire a new assistant chief pilot.
This is spot on! Pay attention to what's ACTUALLY happening, not what you and/or the company wishes was happening.
