I remember my days as an FE on the 727...I used to get to the layover hotel and just collapse on the bed, completely exhausted. It wasn't until I went to the MD88 that I realized it was the noise level on the 72 that was causing the fatigue.
Not saying it isn't loud, but the loudest I've experienced was when I was a navy on the B-52. You had to have earplugs in when you went from helmet to headset or you'd suffer. After an 8 hour flight the noise took such a toll I would sometimes ralph after getting back to the squadron. The noise level on the C-130 was much more acceptable, but by M88 and 717 standards it was awfully loud.
