With all the money and security he has padded himself with, what is his incentive to do the right thing? The Delta pilots have a long history of excellent relations with their management. The Delta pilots have a credibility like no other pilot group. The Delta pilots have contributed Billions more than any other party to the success the and record profitability the company enjoys today.
Wall Street is littered with CEOs who couldn't make the grade. Yahoo's Marissa Mayer and Kmart's Chuck Conway come to mind.
Being the CEO how destroyed the relationship with the Delta pilots is not a legacy Mr. Bastain dreams of.
