Obviously it's a business move. I have been following parker for a decade. He is shrewd. But he sees a business case for improving employee morale. A link between compensation, employee satisfaction and productivity.
Look carefully at the fact he was under no contractual obligation. That means this program can be canceled, paused, or otherwise at anytime with any work group. Will he actually do that? Maybe! Doug doesn't care about morale, he is a bottom line numbers guy, and cares only for his image. He learned from Lorenzo's playbook. Plain and simple I think the actions of the APA and the negative press forced him to do something or potentially be ousted. Only time will tell. However, it is a nice gesture if only for publicity.
As for whether or not it happens here, depends on what the association is willing to do. I don't think it will ever happen here outside of the CBA.
