I am planning on sending in my resume to asa in the next few weeks and I have a few questions:
1. They accept applications via e-mail, so do I send it as an attatchment, and if so, what type of attachment do they prefer (word document, pdf, etc.)

When I sent mine to them in May, I attached my cover letter and resume as a pdf document. Dont send them copies of anything with your cover letter and resume, they will call you and phone screen you if you meet the min quals. If that goes well, they offer an in person two part interview over the phone in ATL. From there, you get the huge packet with stuff to fill out and your ticket to ATL. I took a job elsewhere, so I cannot comment on the interview process at ASA, good luck!
