The UAL side accepted it to stop the JP and JS carnage to the UAL pilot seniority. Since then the combined pilot group agreed to a 2 year extension for a little raise instead of making meaningful changes to the contract.

Hit the nail on the head. Pilots keep ratifying contracts with this kind of junk in them and fail to hold the negotiators through their reps' feet to the fire when they do it. Look in the mirror.
