As the applications with 1000 PIC dwindle, it will go to 500. As those dwindle, it will go to zero. It's no secret that the days of SWA getting their choice of pilots to hire is over. They are now competing with other carriers that offer better long term career prospects based on our current contract.
On my interview day we had only a handful of military and Part-121 regional pilots (with some overlap in these groups). There were as many corporate/charter pilots as there were pilots in any other group. One out of every four pilots that day had some lack of recent flight experience.
