The "7ER" category consists of the 757-200/300 and 767-300/300ER. It is a hybrid domestic/international narrow/wide-body category.
It was offered as a new-hire drop when (I believe) the 'shrinking fleet' talk was rampant and current line guys weren't willing to risk bidding to the category just to get displaced when the airplanes were parked. Now that the talk of parking the fleet has decreased dramatically, positions are currently being covered by the AE process.
Just some information. I may be completely wrong as to peoples' motivation, though.

The junior person currently awarded the 767-400 (NYC) is a 2015 hire.... The junior person on the ER is still in initial training...
