It's a matter of minimizing financial risk. If CommutAir or TSA can't fly ERJs due to staffing, they park some and pay certain penalties. If ExpressJet can't fly some, they just don't extend the flying on some airplanes and no penalty.
There's going to be a demand for some ERJs past 2017 at ExpressJet. It will likely not be the current fleet size forever in demand, but some number. The only thing I can say to that is you need to have faith people will continue to come in behind you and let the ERJ flying be financially viable. This type of fleet plan sucks and doesn't give long term stability that we all want. But if we can fly them, they will extend them is the going mantra.
