Is this scummy/frowned upon? I just don't want to get stuck sitting jury duty all day on a day off.

Either read between the lines yourself (FSM) or ask the guy sitting next to you. Don't publicize it. I'm trying to help you (or anybody else that thinks doing something similar is a good idea), not the company.
Looking back at my post I suppose I wrote it wrong. Obviously not hiding anything from company as I would have to submit the dated summons per FSM. Meant to state, ' can I use PTO on reserve day for jury duty as I don't want to sit jury duty on a day off', and obviously I can. Not trying to commit fraud etc..

Thanks

--- Edit: Called and you just submit summons and they block the day. Probably should have just done that in the first place.. I feel myself becoming reliant on the internet, scary.
