There's already existing language now about the rates for flying E-145s. It's more up to United to decide how many they want and XJT to say how many they can actually fly.
There is a 6 month clause about United making that call for the Dec 31, 2017 date you may have heard of. They'll probably make the call before then, but it's up to them on how many they want. With unclear staffing numbers at all their other regionals, I'm sure they'll wait til closer to that date.
The 20 E-145s slated to come offline in 2016 are on a consistent renewal. If they can't be flown, no penalties for performance. It's possible planes scheduled to come offline in 2017 could be added to this plan. So it may not seem firm and isn't much for concerns about the fleet plan, but it puts XJT in a better place financially.
They've been adamant that if they can be flown, they absolutely will be. The fleet plan requires consistent new hires to be successful. That's not untrue at other regionals, but it makes it looks better on the balance sheet for risk. Unfortunately, it makes it a much harder job to hire people.
