Timbo. I haven't heard ANYBODY complain about slow upgrades in at least the last 2 years. Anybody that has a little more than a year with the company wants to upgrade now can do it.
OK, here goes.... 8 years ago I was a line holder on the 767-400. I'm now flying rubber dog poo on worn out 757s. This is now my retirement aircraft. 10 years ago I was destined to end my career on the 777. Not now. I was talking with crew resources during my transition back to the classic 75/76, and I mentioned how much my hourly rate was dropping. His answer was "yeah, but now you'll be able to fly more hours and make up the difference."
And there you have it. That enough of an upgrade complaint, or does that count as a downgrade complaint?
