Vacation with reserve
I bid reserve for vacation every time so am very familiar with all the ins and outs. Few questions:
1. You have 10 days of vacation, before manipulating it in any way, correct? I'm pretty sure that's what you're saying from your post, just need to confirm so the info I give is correct.
2. I'm assuming you've done the math using the formula and the max extension is 3 days. Remember to round down!
3. As stated, June is a 4 week bid month so you owe the company 15 days of work.
4. Assuming you've got the 13 days of vacation after extension, you will have a footprint of 17 days (13 plus 48 hr buffer either end). So yes, you could knock out a whole 15 day block with that footprint. However, remember that the 48 hr buffer(s) are considered days free from duty, not vacation days. So, in this example you would still owe the company 2 days of work for the month. You can request those days via the reserve line reconstruction during the conflict/input window, but as stated is a request. They can put them wherever they need.
5. The way I like to do it is to bid a line that once awarded I can extend and slide to knock out the days I want off and leave the days I want to work. For example, I'm on vacation right now. I wanted the last 3 weeks off. I bid a reserve line that had a chunk of days early and a chunk of days the third week. By extending and sliding I knocked out all but 6 days of reserve (I had 7 days of vacation, extended to 9), early in the month, that were on THE ORIGINAL LINE. This is important. Since it was in the original line there's no reconstruction necessary. The contract says they have to preserve those days. Therefore I knew, once awarded my original bid line, which days I'd work and which I had off. There's usually several reserve lines each month I can do this with/to.
6. They deduct your vacation bank the hours (total). So, let's say each reserve day is worth 4:59. For ease of math, let's say you had 7 days of vacation you extended to 10. Your bank would be deducted 49:50 hours, but only 7 days of vacation would be deducted.
