The perceived SC and FSB abuse sounds much more like incompetence and lack of training on the part of crew scheduling. Contractual change doesn't fix stupid.
Commuting to reserve will NEVER, EVER be as good as being the number one wide body captain lines. The rest of us will never vote to support such change, as it would cost us all too much, to benefit a very small number. That is why they call it a "union".
"Fixes to reserve" and satellite bases will not happen. 80% of us will vote no.
This is it in a nutshell. "Changes to reserve" that have a cost to the company AND/OR to the real or perceived QOL of senior folks is a nonstarter. But if we can get the MEC to address the SC/FSB assignment process that makes it transparent, viewable, and metric driven that is a win/win. The arguments on the extremes of paddling around on your non domicile pool on reserve or just assign everybody available a SC/FSB at 1640 to cover 2 departures are not tenable.
Maybe being able to bid LC or SC again is a possible solution. Allowing FSB into this contract was monumental stupidity, and it it has to be massaged a bit.
And no, it wasn't worth voting no at this point to fix. IMHO. If the entry point for the company on fixes to reserve is to do away with the 10am first day show, all negotiations should be accomplished by the NC from a Budweiser raft floating around in a pool in Phoenix.
