None that I am aware of. It sounds like you are doing things correctly (pilot commuting listing). If you chose something else, I would suspect that as the culprit, so you have me stumped.

I am a noob at VX, but if I were in your shoes I'd try going hat-in-hand to the gate agent early and explain your case and/or find the crew working the flight to see what they could make happen.
