I'm getting tired of this don't pick up drivel. Even airlines with a CBA have provisions in it for picking up extra work for more pay. Guess what, ours will too. One of the great things about our airline is the access to open time, swaps, drops, pickups, rsa and vda. Flexibility is a good thing. It's good for the qol pilot who wants to drop to minimum and its good for the high earners who want to max their pay and everyone in between. Suggesting that no one should take advantage of what is offered to EVERYONE only serves to make more people unhappy. It's not selfish, just as it won't be selfish for pilots to do whatever is available in the CBA when we get one.
And I am tired of people missing the big picture.
The problem that picking up during negotiations gives our leverage away. Nobody is saying that once a good CBA it's reached you shouldn't pick up. But in every airline with good CBAs there were black outs of picking up during negotiations.
Our pick up system it's wrong anyway. No premium for regular open time, reserve pilots that pick up on they off don't go above guarantee, VDA at 150% instead of 200%. And all this just keeps us understaffed.
If you can't understand that by not picking up now, you will have a better contract soon, you should reconsider your career choice.
