But it's not.. it's been so easy for me. My SO understands EVERYTHING I breathe/talk/ask/vent about aviation. With my non-pilot friends I get ''huh'' or 'don't care.' I'm sure a non-pilot SO would be the same.
I can't imagine that many non-pilot men would be secure enough to have a gf who knows more about machines (airplanes) than they do, isnt home everyday and works with 95% other men in very close quarters on a daily basis.
At the same time, many women are insecure about their men working with female FOs and FAs. Some think every female FO and FA are out to seduce their man.. yeah OK do you think your man is THAT hot?
And have you ever read those pilot wife/gf forums out there? Seriously, many of them have a very hard time. You know, like if their bf or husband is going through 121 training, they can't understand why he can't talk on the phone with them every 3 hours and then they get all insecure and weepy and demanding about it. As a pilot myself, I can't help but roll my eyes. Training is hard and annoying as it is, without such outside issues distracting you. I'm not saying every gf and wife of a pilot is like that, but I've read a ton of posts on that very topic.
With a pilot SO, both of you know from the get go exactly what to expect. We know EXACTLY what it's like because we've both been there. So I guess it comes down to the level of mutual understanding that you just can't get with a non-pilot.
as far as the bills, uhm.. one of us has student loans and the other doesnt.. so he helps me out every now and then
