I don't know who your "buddie" is lol, but as 50% bidder on the 175 side as a CA (Spring 13 hire) I hold 14-16 days off 80-84hrs of credit each month and it honors my day off prefs. Also - all my trips start with 1 late leg to an outstation on day 1...so you can barely consider them 4 days... more like 3 1/2 day 20-22 hour trips.

I'm trying to find something but I have absolutely nothing to currently complain about. Except maybe that BDL hotel....
